BC Adventure: Part 2: Road to The Island
June 11, 2017**** the disclaimer from my previous post also applies to this one****
We woke up early to have breakfast, pack up and catch the ferry to the island. From the looks of the sky it was going to be a crappy day. Glinda, being as dumb as she is decided to get us lost again by telling us to go right when she meant left and we took a nice little detour through a residential area for a while. When we finally did make it to the ferry we were still quite early so we decided to hang out in the village and take some pictures, even though it was pouring rain. So we wandered about for a while and took photos with all the magical cherry blossoms.
Once we were done gallivanting in the rain we *tried* to head back to the ferries, which was a lot easier said than done. Glinda and Gina took us around in circles through the village for a while because there was the drop of entrance for the ferry there. Apparently if you want to get back to the ferry and you are driving you basically have to drive back down the highway , loop around, and then go all the way back down to where the ferries are, so that was a fun adventure in the pouring rain. While we were waiting in line for the ferry, it did stop raining which kept us hopeful.
While on the ferry, the clouds seemed to part as we approached the island. As we drove the clouds continued to part and it looked like the weather was finally on our side. Along the way we stopped at a river and frolicked about. While we were there it began to drizzle and the sun was peaking out from behind some clouds, which made it look like the air was sparkling. It was by far the most magical view I have ever seen.
We frolicked about an hour or so, happy that the sun had come out to play. I also some how managed to frolic in heels and not break an ankle so that was a win for me! There was a very large tree trunk amongst the rocks that we almost died on. It was quite slippery from all the rain but we really wanted to take pictures so we chanced it.
On our way back to the car we found a small flower bush and I forcefully said to Kelsey “Flowers! Put your face there!”. She laughed, then realized I was serious and put her face there. She then proceeded to say “It smells like pee…”, and I proceeded to take photos of her face. We got back into the car and resumed our drive to Tofino.
As we drove the clouds began to disappear and the sun began its descend towards the horizon. What had started as a miserably rainy day seemed to be ending wonderfully. When we finally got to the hotel we checked in… and somehow, though not surprisingly, ended up in the exact same room that Kelsey had stayed in last time she was there with her family. (If you are planning a trip to Tofino I highly recommend the Best Western there, its a bit on the pricier side, but it is quite literally on the beach and the views from the rooms are amazing!)
We rushed into the room the change into shorts, and made it onto the beach just as sunset began. Kelsey booked it right into the ocean (which wasn’t too warm yet since it was the beginning of May), but i swear if she had a swimsuit she would have dove right in.
